How much will my scan cost?
Are you bulk billing?
Most examinations are bulk-billed for eligible patients — including X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, dental imaging and many MSK procedures. For some MRI and cardiac studies a gap may apply; our reception team will explain costs clearly when you book.
What do I need to bring to bulk-bill?
Your Medicare card and a valid referral from your GP or specialist. Pensioners and healthcare card holders should bring those cards too.
Will I be out of pocket for an MRI?
It depends on the type of scan, your referral, and your eligibility. Some MRI scans are fully Medicare-rebated; others attract a gap. We will confirm any cost when you book — no surprises on the day.
Do you accept private health insurance?
Outpatient imaging is generally claimed through Medicare rather than private health. We do not offer inpatient services — for inpatient or hospital-billed studies, your hospital will manage the private-health claim.
Which services attract a gap fee?
Most studies are fully bulk-billed. The exceptions where a gap fee may apply are: calcium scoring, obstetric (pregnancy) ultrasounds, MRI, and some interventional procedures. Cost estimates are provided at booking — no surprises on the day.
I have a DVA card — am I covered?
Gold card holders are covered for most services we offer (X-Ray, ultrasound, CT, nuclear medicine). MRI coverage depends on the specific request. White card holders are covered only for conditions related to their accepted disability. Bring your DVA card to your appointment.
I have a WorkCover or TAC claim — what do I need?
Bring your claim number and your case manager's pre-approval before your appointment. We invoice the agent directly using your claim and approval numbers — you should have no out-of-pocket cost at the clinic.
What payment methods do you accept?
For any out-of-pocket portion, we accept cash, credit cards and EFTPOS. Full payment is appreciated on the day of examination. For billing questions: [email protected].
I have OSHC (overseas student health cover) or private insurance — what should I bring?
Bring your Medicare card if you have one, plus your OSHC / private insurance details. Many Medicare-rebatable studies are bulk-billed regardless; for any uncovered portion, OSHC and most private health funds will reimburse what they cover after the appointment. Call your nearest clinic on 02 9053 1911 and we'll confirm how your specific scan is handled before you book.
Do I need a referral?
Do I need a referral?
Yes — a valid referral from a GP or specialist is required for every examination. You can email or upload your referral when booking, or bring the original to your appointment.
How long is a referral valid?
Standard GP referrals are valid for 12 months from the date written. Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months. Ongoing referrals (marked "indefinite") can be used until you change clinical context.
Can a referral be sent electronically?
Yes. Your GP or specialist can send eReferrals via Healthlink, Argus or Medical Objects and they appear in our system before you arrive.
What to expect on the day.
What do I need to bring?
Your Medicare card, any concession or healthcare card, your referral, and any prior imaging on disc or via portal if you have it.
How early should I arrive?
Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment so we can complete any safety paperwork. For MRI please arrive 15 minutes early to fill in the MRI safety form.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. Family or carers are welcome to wait in our reception. For MRI, a support person can only enter the scan room after completing the MRI safety form themselves.
Is parking available?
All clinics have parking nearby. Specific options vary — call the clinic directly for parking and access information.
When and how will I get my results?
How long do reports take?
Reports are sent to your referring GP or specialist the next business day after your examination. Urgent reports can be expedited — please mention this when booking.
Can I get a copy of my report?
Yes. We recommend you discuss your report with the doctor who referred you so they can put it in context, but you can also request a copy via the patient portal or by emailing your clinic.
Can I take my images home?
All images are available digitally via our patient portal. We can also provide a CD on request — let our team know at the time of your appointment.
Do I need to prepare for my scan?
X-Ray
No specific preparation. Avoid wearing jewellery, watches, or clothing with zips and metal fasteners over the area being imaged. Tell us if there is any chance you may be pregnant.
Ultrasound — abdominal
Fast for six hours before the appointment. You can take water and regular medications.
Ultrasound — pelvic / renal
Attend with a comfortably full bladder. Empty one hour before your appointment, then drink one litre of water.
CT with contrast
Fast for four hours. Drink water beforehand. Patients with kidney disease, diabetes or who take metformin should bring blood test results less than three months old.
MRI
Complete the MRI safety form on arrival. Leave valuables at home; avoid makeup and hairspray (some contain metallic particles). Tell us about tattoos, skin patches, pregnancy or claustrophobia. For abdominal or pelvic MRI you may need to fast.
