About this service

CT coronary angiography (CTCA) and calcium scoring are non-invasive cardiac CT studies. CTCA evaluates the coronary arteries; calcium scoring quantifies coronary calcium burden as a marker of cardiovascular risk.

What to expect

A nurse places a small cannula in your arm. Heart-rate-lowering medication may be given to optimise image quality. The scan itself is brief — typically a few breath-holds inside the CT scanner. We monitor you for a short period afterwards.

Preparation

Avoid caffeine for 12 hours before the appointment. Continue your regular medications unless told otherwise. Bring a list of current medications.

Results and reports

A sub-specialised radiologist will read your scan and send a comprehensive report directly to your referring GP or specialist the next business day. Your referrer will discuss the results with you at your follow-up appointment.

Bulk billing

Most cardiac ct examinations are bulk-billed for eligible patients. Our team will confirm any out-of-pocket costs when you book.
