About this service
Computed tomography (CT) is an effective diagnostic modality that uses X-rays to take fine slices through the body. We reconstruct these into 3D images for comprehensive visualisation of the scanned region.
What to expect
The CT scanner looks like a large doughnut with a hole in the centre, through which a bed moves in and out. You stay still on the bed; some scans require brief breath-holds, with multilingual prompts via speaker. Examinations range from 5 to 30 minutes depending on the region scanned.
Specific instructions are given based on the scan type. For iodinated contrast: fast beforehand and drink 500ml–1L of water pre-scan. Patients with kidney disease, diabetes or who take metformin should bring blood test results less than three months old. Some abdominal scans require an oral contrast solution — we will guide you on the day.
Results and reports
A sub-specialised radiologist will read your scan and send a comprehensive report directly to your referring GP or specialist the next business day. Your referrer will discuss the results with you at your follow-up appointment.
Bulk billing
Most ct scan examinations are bulk-billed for eligible patients. Our team will confirm any out-of-pocket costs when you book.
