About this service
Image-guided biopsy uses ultrasound or CT to sample tissue precisely and safely. We perform breast, thyroid, lymph-node, lung, musculoskeletal and abdominal biopsies; cores are sent to your nominated pathology lab and results returned to your specialist.
What to expect
The radiologist confirms the target on imaging, cleans the skin and gives local anaesthetic. A core or fine-needle sample is taken under live imaging. Most biopsies take 20–40 minutes including post-procedure observation.
Tell us about blood thinners, allergies and pregnancy when booking. We may ask you to pause specific medications — written instructions are issued at booking. Bring previous imaging if you have it.
Results and reports
A sub-specialised radiologist will read your scan and send a comprehensive report directly to your referring GP or specialist the next business day. Your referrer will discuss the results with you at your follow-up appointment.
Bulk billing
Most image-guided biopsies examinations are bulk-billed for eligible patients. Our team will confirm any out-of-pocket costs when you book.
